Throwback Thursday- This Week in Music History

For this weeks Throwback Thursday I wanted to give you all 5 things that happened this week, that I found interesting.

1. In 1940 Woody Guthrie wrote the lyrics for "This Land Is Your Land" in New York. The song has been redone by many artists and I believe that it needs to be reinstated especially given the political climate that we are living in now.

2. In 1983 Michael Jackson's Thriller went to No. 1 on the US album chart and went on to become the most successful album of all time with sales over 50 million copies.

3. In 1998 Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" went to No. 1 on the UK singles chart and was the best selling single in 1998.

4. In 2009, President Obama honored Stevie Wonder with America's highest award for pop music, the Library if Congress' Gershwin Prize.

5. In 2011, it was announce Queen's "We Will Rock You" was most played song at US sporting events, according to BMI, specifically in the MLB, NHL and NFL.
