Rest in Peace Shawty Lo

Early this morning rapper Shawty Lo died in a car accident off of I-285 in Atlanta. Around 2:30am, Lo's Audi swerved and hit the rail guard then flipped over and hit multiple trees and caught fire. He was ejected from the car and unfortunately died at the scene. Lo was only forty years old and the father of eleven children. On Fox 5 Atlanta his daughter said he always told them to never give up on their dreams and to always move forward.

Shawty Lo was one of the founding members of the hip-hop group D4L and founder of D4L Records. You may be familiar with their hits "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me" and "Laffy Taffy". Lo was the executive producer for D4L's debut album titled "Down For Life". That was the beginning of the "snap music" trend. In 2007, Shawty Lo went solo and created the hits "Dey Know" and my personal favorite "Dunn Dunn".

Before his untimely death, he was working on his sophomore album which included appearances from Gucci Mane, Ludacris, T.I., Rick Ross and many more. In 2011 he signed a new label deal with 50 Cent and G-Unit Records that made D4L Records a part of G-Unit South (which is a subsidiary record label of G-Unit Records)

I just remember Shawty Lo for making the hits that make you want to dance and make you feel like you were That dude or girl. I send prayers and love to his family and friends and know that he did a lot for Atlanta rap and along with T.I. helped put Bankhead on the map.

Rest in Peace Shawty Lo
